New Yorker Cover Redesign
This is a mockup redesign for the cover of the New Yorker. I created this with minimal design in mind but also trying to add to the current design because of how heavily it already relied on how well known the magazine is. Because of this preexisting minimalism I tried to pull in more elements from other magazines to round out the design more and make it more accessible.
Alegria’s Martyr
This is a satirical study of Andrea Mantegna’s 1480 painting of Saint Sebastian in the Alegria art style developed by the Buck design firm for Facebook back in 2017. My study of Andrea Mantegna’s painting was inspired by work by various other artists online who were making work with the intent of mocking the seemingly universally disliked, disconnected forced nature of these new corporate art styles like corporate memphis by using them to recreate brutal imagery in modern tragedies and famous classical artworks. Examples include a recreation of Caravagio’s painting of Saturn Devouring his Son, Artemisia Gentileschi’s painting of Judith Slaying Holofernes, and an illustration depicting the incident involving George Floyd and Derek Chauvin.
